Broken Open, in Gratitude

2015 has been a difficult year – and a blessing in its difficulty.

Someone once said that life is beautiful and horrific and beyond understanding – I don’t know who to quote, and I could very well be the person who said those words, though they flow from my fingers like someone else’s complete thought.

Regardless, the author is correct.

As I have been humbled by this year, I have also broken open. My feelings have intensified. I say “I don’t know” more than ever before. I am silent more than ever before. All the colors have a depth I barely noticed in my youth.

Thank the gods for time, and for death, and for the gifts of aging. Thank the gods for this beautiful, fucked up year.
